Workshops to provide health information in French

* Tourism and Culture [to May 2015]
The province is stepping up its efforts to provide Islanders with French language health information, says Tourism and Culture Minister Robert Vessey.

“More French language health resources will be added to our public libraries and French public health workshops will be offered for members of the Francophone and Acadian community,” said Minister Vessey. “The workshops will address key areas of health such as mental health promotion, disease prevention, nutrition and physical activity.”

The new programs are made possible through the “Better informed about Health in French” program which is offered by Health Canada and Société Santé en français. The project is aimed at increasing access to health information by the Francophone population, with the help of public libraries and French community centers.

“By offering free healthy-living information, Island libraries are contributing to healthy communities,” said Health and Wellness Minister Carolyn Bertram. “The workshops are a great way for our libraries to open their doors to the community and provide health information to the public.”

Lynne Faubert, Souris hospital dietitian, will present a workshop on healthy eating with practical nutrition advice for families on the following dates:

• February 2 at the Centre acadien de Prince-ouest in Deblois

• February 9 at the Abram-Village public library

• February 16 at the J.-Henri-Blanchard in Summerside

• February 23 at the Centre acadien de Rustico

• March 2 at the Dr.J.-Edmond-Arsenault in Charlottetown

• March 9 at the Centre acadien et francophone de l’Est in Fortune.
