Women in Business Symposium

The second annual Women in Business Symposium, "Turning Practice Into Profit," will be held on October 22 and 23 at the Charlottetown Hotel in conjunction with Small Business Week.

Presented by the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency, PEI Business Development, UPEI's Management Development Program for Women and the PEI Businesswomen's Association, the symposium features a range of topics and national speakers.

"ACOA is pleased to support this conference under the new Women in Business Initiative, a component of the Entrepreneurship and Business Skills Development Partnership, which is designed to strengthen management skills of women-owned businesses and improve access to capital and business support services," said the Honourable Gerry Byrne, Minister of State for ACOA.

Keynote speakers for the symposium are Donna Messer, editor of Women in Business magazine, and Barbara Mowatt, a leading home-based business expert. Sessions include Working from Home and Making it Work, Healthy Wealthy and Wise, Creating a Formula for Women, The Marketing Bridge, The Effective Art of Networking, Interpersonal Relationships in the Workplace, and Strategies for Growth.

"Women in business are valuable contributors to our PEI economy and our business environment," said the Honourable Michael F. Currie, Minister of Development and Technology. "The Symposium offers women entrepreneurs the opportunity to learn new ideas, contacts and innovative drive to achieve further success with their businesses."

Space is limited, and interested participants can call 1 800 871-2596 to pre-register by October 16.

"The symposium helps to promote the idea and the importance of life-long learning and skills development to Island women entrepreneurs and businesswomen," said Isabel Christian, UPEI's Management Development Program for Women. "I invite and encourage businesswomen to think of UPEI as a resource that is here for them to use."
