Trade Team PEI travels to New York City to develop new markets

Trade Team PEI (TTPEI) is traveling to New York City today with 10 PEI-based companies to participate in a multi-sector mission to develop export relationships in the area.

“The Trade Team PEI New York City Trade Mission is a valuable opportunity to establish and enhance business relationships,” said the Honourable Keith Ashfield, Minister of National Revenue, Minister of the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency and Minister for the Atlantic Gateway. “Developing these relationships is central to opening up new markets for our Atlantic Canadian companies and contributing to the growth of our regional economy.”

Trade Team PEI, led by ACOA and Innovation PEI, plays a key role in planning activities and delivering programs that are designed to help small- and medium-sized businesses effectively compete as exporters.

“Trade and export are a key part of the Island economy and the northeastern United States is a natural marketplace for Prince Edward Island’s good and services,” said the Honourable Allan Campbell, Minister of Innovation and Advanced Learning. “This is a great opportunity for our Island businesses to make inroads into one of the world’s greatest centres of commerce.”

The New York City trade mission is the second mission on TTPEI 2010-2011 calendar. This trade mission is a multi-sector mission taking place from November 15 to 19. Island-based companies joining the trade delegation include representatives from the food, bioscience, manufacturing, information technology and consumer products industries. Over the course of the five-day mission, each company will participate in a series of pre-arranged business-to-business meetings to explore potential opportunities in New York City.

The Government of Canada, through ACOA, and the Province of Prince Edward Island, through Innovation PEI, is supporting the mission with a combined investment of $78,400.

Trade Team PEI is a partnership network of federal and provincial government agencies and departments committed to helping PEI-based trade and export-focussed businesses succeed in their pursuit of new business opportunities in the global marketplace.
