TD Summer Reading Club encourages children to see reading as play

Education, Early Learning and Culture
The TD Summer Reading Club will be getting underway in libraries across the province, says Education, Early Learning and Culture Minister Hal Perry.

“This year’s program will encourage children to see reading as play,” said Minister Perry. “Through books, children can have the freedom to explore, discover and play in any way they choose, and our provincial Public Library Service can help them do just that.”

TD Summer Reading Club is an inclusive program that engages children in the joy of reading while championing Canadian writers and illustrators. Children who register for the TD Summer Reading Club at their local library receive free program materials and are encouraged to earn collectible stickers by reading books over the summer.

A provincial launch party will take place at the Summerside Rotary Library on Saturday, June 20 at 2pm. There will also be activities throughout the province at library branches during the summer months.

“In addition to the Summer Reading Club, six of our library branches will be participating in the Sister Libraries program,” said Youth Services Librarian Roseanne Gauthier. “Four English and two French libraries in Prince Edward Island will be matched with libraries from Quebec, Alberta, and Saskatchewan.”

For more than ten years, the PEI Public Library Service and TD Bank have partnered to deliver the Summer Reading Club at libraries across the Island.
