An online survey is underway to collect input from students, parents, educators and support staff about their experience with the school system, says Education and Early Childhood Minister Doug Currie.
"The Tell Them From Me survey will allow participants to give direct input into school development initiatives,” said Minister Currie. “It is important to collect information and advice from everyone involved with the school system to find out first-hand what people are thinking. By working together, we can come up with new ideas and learn valuable information to help build a stronger school system across our one Island community.”
Tell Them From Me is an interactive online school survey designed to help front- line educators and administrators improve learning outcomes for students. By measuring student engagement, student wellness and school climate, Tell Them From Me gets to the source of known factors that affect academic achievement. Everyone completing the survey will be given a random username and password to ensure anonymity. Students across the province are now participating in the survey that requires about 30 minutes to complete. Later this month, teachers and school staff will be surveyed and parents will be invited to complete the survey in the spring of 2011.
“The Prince Edward Island Teachers' Federation welcomes the opportunity to collaborate with our educational partners as we explore the ongoing process of school development,” said president Carrie St. Jean. “The Federation is encouraging everyone to participate and complete the online survey. We look forward to hearing the feedback from Island students, teachers and parents.
Minister Currie said the surveys are completely anonymous and will provide valuable information for schools to respond to the needs of our students.
“Information gathered by the survey will help front-line educators, administrators and our Department to have a clearer picture of the system at a school, district and provincial level based on student and teacher input,” said Minister Currie. “It is also very important for parents to join the conversation and to provide input by completing their survey next spring.”
The Tell Them From Me survey was created by the Learning Bar, based on the work by co-founder Dr. J. Douglas Willms. Hundreds of schools in fifty school districts and divisions across Canada have used The Learning Bar’s surveys.
