--- The Youth Storyboard Showcase for family violence prevention highlights the characteristics of healthy relationships in a very unique way said Minister of Family and Human Services Tina Mundy.
“This year’s event encouraged teachers and youth-based organizations across the Island to engage youth to share their vision of healthy relationships,” said the Minister. “The artwork submitted for this showcase demonstrated a great deal of passion and compassion and illustrated very well the characteristics that we should all strive toward to develop and maintain healthy relationships in our own lives.”
This year’s contest winners were Madison King and Kara MacIsaac. Madison is a grade four student in Alison Kelly Doyle’s class at L.M Montgomery Elementary, and Kara is a grade nine student in Sandra Forbes’s class at Hernwood Intermediate. Each student won $250 for her classroom.
Island students in grades four to six and seven to nine created storyboards based on the theme, “What is a healthy relationship?” Madison and Kara’s storyboards were selected out of submissions from across the province.
“The Premier's Action Committee on Family Violence Prevention Youth Engagement Working Group would like to thank all of the teachers who engaged with students on this project and all of the students who submitted a storyboard,” said Ann Sherman, Chair of the Premier’s Action Committee on Family Violence Prevention. “While it is not possible to capture all of the components of a healthy relationship in a single storyboard, these entries together highlight many important aspects of these relationships.”
Each year the Premier’s Action Committee on Family Violence Prevention Youth Engagement Working Group invites Island students in grades four to six and seven to nine to participate in the Storyboard Showcase. The winning entries are selected based on relevance to theme, attractiveness of design and creativity from entries submitted by students across the province.
