All Provincial and Federal Government Offices closed for the day.
The state of emergency remains in effect across Prince Edward Island.
The following is the latest update from Emergency Measures Organization:
- All provincial and federal government offices across Prince Edward Island will be closed for the day. This is an update to the earlier announcement indicating offices would be closed until noon.
- Minister Elmer MacFadyen invoked the State of Emergency to restrict travel on any road, street or highway. This measure is necessary to ensure main arteries can be cleared for emergency vehicles. Motorists and pedestrians must stay off the roads until the State of Emergency is lifted. This apply to all non-emergency traffic and pedestrians.
- The Joint Emergency Operations Centre (EMO) remains operational and will continue to co-ordinate with emergency workers and municipalities to assess potential damage and provide assistance where required.
- The 911 system remains operational across the Province and emergencies involving an individual’s health, safety or security should be reported immediately.
- Environment Canada’s Maritime Weather Centre is providing regular updates to EMO officials and Maritime Electric is assessing current power outages, which are reported to be minimal.
- EMO encourages individuals to use common sense during snow removal efforts.
The Joint Emergency Operations Centre continues to monitor current conditions and will provide regular updates through local media outlets.
