A successful campaign in support of the United Way of Prince Edward Island exceeded expectations again this year, says the chair of the provincial government employee’s campaign for the United Way, Aidan Sheridan.
Provincial government employees raised just over $165,000 this year through donations and a number of fund-raising events. Since 1989, that figure totals more than $2.8 million.
“This campaign involved a great deal of hard work and dedication from our provincial government employees,” said Premier Robert Ghiz. “Through their efforts, and their generous donations, they are supporting many programs and services that further strengthen our Island communities.”
“We exceeded our target goal by more than $13,000 and increased our participation rate during this campaign,” said Mr. Sheridan. “I want to thank our employees, across the province, for really going above and beyond to make a difference in the lives of Islanders in need.”
David Dunphy, Volunteer President of the United Way of Prince Edward Island said, “Once again the employees of the Provincial Government have stepped up to the plate and showed their unwavering support for their friends and neighbours across PEI. Provincial Government employees recognize the importance of their donations in support of United Way Programs and are more than willing to “dig deep” when they know that 100% of their donations stay on Prince Edward Island to help in the areas of health, support for daily living, social-recreational needs and disease prevention. Thank you, Provincial Government Employees.”
The United Way of Prince Edward Island helps to fund a number of programs and services throughout the province each year, with a focus on community needs. These programs and services are targeted towards families, children, youth, seniors and persons with disabilities.
