December 16, 2011 * Community Services and Seniors [to May 2015]The Government of Prince Edward Island will support the re-opening of Bedford MacDonald House through a one-time monetary contribution, says Community Services and Seniors Minister Valerie E. Docherty. “Support from the provincial government will allow Bedford MacDonald House to re-open immediately. We understand Bedford MacDonald House representatives are currently in discussion with community groups to determine a long-term solution,” said Minister Docherty. “Our government looks forward to working collaboratively with interested community groups in the new year.” The provincial government will donate $20,000 to Bedford MacDonald House to support necessary re-opening costs. The shelter is expected to be re-opened within the next week. Bedford MacDonald House is a shelter for adult males who are experiencing short-term homelessness. The shelter operates six beds and has been in operation for six years.
