Premier Robert Ghiz leaves tomorrow for the annual meeting of the Council of the Federation. This year’s meeting is taking place in Winnipeg, August 4 - 6, and will be hosted by Manitoba Premier, Greg Selinger.
“The meetings this week will be an opportunity for premiers to discuss strengthening the economy, sustaining health care, enhancing trade and protecting water resources,” said Premier Ghiz. “Discussion on these items with my colleagues from across the country will allow us to identify areas of collaboration, share best practices and speak to the federal government with a united voice.”
A closing news conference is scheduled for Friday, August 6.
The Council of the Federation is comprised of all 13 provincial and territorial premiers. The council enables premiers to work collaboratively to strengthen the Canadian federation by fostering a constructive relationship among the provinces, territories and the federal government.
In advance of the Council of the Federation Meeting, Canadian premiers will meet with the leaders of the National Aboriginal Organizations on August 4 in Churchill, Manitoba.
