Prince Edward Island is pleased to be hosting the 2014 Ministerial Conference on the Canadian Francophonie (MCCF). Premier Robert Ghiz, minister responsible for Acadian and Francophone Affairs, made the announcement as the 2013 MCCF concluded today in Winnipeg.
“The Conference works for an open, dynamic and diverse Francophonie that contributes to, and participates fully in, the growth of Canadian society,” said Premier Ghiz. “With the upcoming 2014 celebrations that mark the beginning of the creation of our nation, it’s an exciting time to be bringing this event to the Island.”
In Winnipeg, Premier Ghiz gave a presentation highlighting the province’s new French Language Services Act that was adopted by the PEI Legislative Assembly in the spring. Ministers also discussed several topics important to the Canadian Francophonie such as early childhood development, immigration, economic development and country-wide key initiatives in the delivery of government services in French.
“All provinces and territories work diligently to develop, implement and promote services offered in French to their French-speaking residents, in all areas of government services,” added the Premier. “The Conference provides a unique opportunity to learn from the experience of other jurisdictions and to share best practices for the benefit of all.”
The next Ministerial Conference on the Canadian Francophonie will be held June 26 and 27, 2014, at the Rodd Brudenell River Resort.
