Premier Robert Ghiz announced the following changes to the senior management team of Government following Tuesday’s cabinet meeting.
• Wayne Hooper is retiring from the Government of Prince Edward Island and will be continuing to serve in a new capacity with the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency.
• Bob Morrison will be retiring from the Government of Prince Edward Island and will be taking up a new position with the Canadian Food Inspection Agency.
• Teresa Hennebery will be leaving her position as Assistant Deputy Minister of Health to take a secondment with the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency.
• Aubrey Cormier will be joining the Government of Prince Edward Island as Assistant Deputy Minister of Acadian and Francophone Affairs.
“The make-up of the senior management team will continue to evolve as we identify the leadership needed to advance our Government’s priorities,” said Premier Ghiz.
“To this end, I am looking forward to working with Aubrey Cormier is his new capacity in support of Acadian and francophone issues.
“I also want to thank Wayne Hooper, Bob Morrison and Teresa Hennebery for their significant service to the Government of Prince Edward Island and wish them well in their new endeavours,” Premier Ghiz said.
AUBREY CORMIER
Prior to his appointment as Assistant Deputy Minister, Aubrey Cormier worked with the Réseau de développement économique et d’employabilité du Canada (RDÉE Canada), a national francophone economic development network. As Chief Intelligence Officer and, more recently, as Assistant Executive Director, he was instrumental in positioning RDÉE Canada’s 150 practitioners-members network as one of Canada’s most dynamic and innovative community economic development (CED) networks.
From 1994 to 2002, Aubrey Cormier held the position of Executive Director of the Société éducative de l’Î.-P.-É. and founding director of the Campus provincial du Collège de l’Acadie à l’Ï.-P.-É. This educational institution, the first distance-learning centre on PEI, provides the Acadian population for the first time with post-secondary education in French. From 1990-1994, he served as Executive Director of the Société Saint-Thomas-d’Aquin, PEI’s Acadian advocacy group.
Aubrey Cormier began his career as Executive Director of the weekly La Voix acadienne in Prince Edward Island. Building on experience acquired in publishing over two million copies of a tourist information publication at La Voix acadienne for the PEI Department of Tourism, Mr. Cormier created the first Acadian tour wholesaler.
Mr. Cormier has received numerous awards for his efforts in community development, including the Canadian Community Educator of the Year Award, the Conseil de la vie française en Amérique Medal and the Société Nationale de l’Acadie’s highest distinction, the Léger-Comeau Medal of Honor.
Born in Amherst, Nova Scotia, Aubrey Cormier currently resides in Cap-Egmont, Prince Edward Island, with his wife Angie. Mr. Cormier studied Journalism and Political Sciences at the Université de Moncton.
