Pesticide sales data online

Communities, Land and Environment
Prince Edward Island’s pesticide sales figures for 2013 and 2014 are now available online, said Minister of Communities, Land and Environment Robert Mitchell.

“In the latest Speech from the Throne, our government committed to increasing transparency and stressed the importance of open data. We heard from various groups and individuals across the province asking for pesticide sales figures to be viewable online, and in response to these requests, this information is now publicly available,” said Minister Mitchell.

Provincial legislation requires retail stores to report these sales to the Department of Communities, Land and Environment. Providing sales data to the provincial government is one of the requirements in order for vendors to acquire a pesticide vendor business license.

Figures include retail sales of non-domestic pesticides and controlled purchase domestic pesticides. Non-domestic pesticides are those used in commercial or industrial applications and controlled purchase domestic pesticides are those sold at home and garden centres.

Sales figures can be viewed online at www.gov.pe.ca/environment.
