PEILCC continues support of work to care for Island rivers

The PEI Liquor Control Commission has completed the fourth of its five year commitment to the Atlantic Salmon Conservation Foundation, raising over $76,000 to date, in support of the Island Rivers Worth Protecting campaign. This initiative generates funds that will be used to support water conservation projects in Prince Edward Island.

“The commission is pleased to continue its support of this program that benefits the Island’s natural resources,” said Robert Henderson, minister responsible for the PEI Liquor Control Commission. “This year’s contribution of $21,166 puts the program in a good position for the final year of the commission’s five year commitment.”

Support received from all funding sources since 2011, including the Prince Edward Island Liquor Control Commission, has ensured significant improvements to PEI rivers. This includes but is not limited to the restoration of 240,192 m2 of degraded stream habitat and 42,390 m2 of degraded fish passage, as well as by engaging Islanders through employment and volunteerism.

“Funds raised through this campaign will help to continue conservation work in waterways across Prince Edward Island,” said Paul Michael, Q.C., Director, Atlantic Salmon Conservation Foundation. “The foundation looks forward to working with community partners on their project submissions in the coming year.”

Funds generated through this program come from supplier donations resulting from the sale of participating products.
