Over the last four years, the PEI Liquor Control Commission has been helping local organizations through its annual wine cooler raffle. In 2011 and 2012, these funds assisted the PEI Association of Food Banks.
“I am pleased to see food banks across the province benefit from the generosity of our customers again this year,” noted Robert Henderson, minister responsible for the PEI Liquor Control Commission.
Starting in May, PEILCC customers who purchased raffle tickets had the chance to win one of 23 prize packages consisting of a free standing wine fridge and 35 bottles of red, white and sparkling wine. The 2012 raffle raised nearly $15,000, bringing the total donation to the PEI Association of Food Banks for the past two years to over $32,000.
“We appreciate the continued support of the community and the PEILCC, and we will distribute these funds to help feed Islanders from across the province,” said Mike MacDonald, general manager of the PEI Association of Food Banks.
Island food banks see over 40,000 visits every year. The PEI Association of Food Banks use the results of their annual HungerCount to allocate the donated proceeds to each of its association member food banks.
