The PEI Liquor Control Commission (PEILCC) and the Canadian Cancer Society are pleased to announce a new partnership during this, the 75th anniversary of the Canadian Cancer Society. Starting April 1 and running throughout the entire month, the Canadian Cancer Society’s daffodil pins will be available in each of the PEILCC’s 18 corporate retail outlets.
The bright yellow lapel pins have proven popular since they were introduced in 2011. For the Canadian Cancer Society, the daffodil is a powerful symbol of strength and courage that shows support for people living with cancer.
“As Islanders we often try to connect the dots to people, all too often we need not look far to find a connection to cancer,” noted Hon. Robert Henderson, minister responsible for the PEI Liquor Control Commission. “The Commission is pleased to support the Canadian Cancer Society as it helps to support those impacted by the disease in Prince Edward Island.”
Daffodil pins are available for a $2 donation, and tax receipts will be issued to anyone making a donation of $10 or more.
“Each April, it is heartwarming to see more and more Islanders wearing a daffodil,” says Lori Barker, Executive Director of the Canadian Cancer Society, PEI Division. “It’s a simple gesture that says so much. Sometimes people comment on my pin, other times it’s a little nod that acknowledges we’re in this fight together.”
This year alone, more than 880 Islanders will be diagnosed with cancer. The Canadian Cancer Society, PEI Division, is committed to preventing cancer, increasing the number of cancer survivors and improving the quality of life for Islanders living with cancer.
Funds raised through this daffodil campaign will support local programs and services offered by the Canadian Cancer Society, PEI Division.
