The PEI Senior Islanders of the Year Award gives us an opportunity to highlight the unique role that older adults play to enhance community and family life and promote positive images of aging, says Valerie E. Docherty, Minister of Community Services and Seniors.
“Each year volunteer members of the Prince Edward Island Senior’s Secretariat take time to honour some of our most deserving Islanders as Senior Islanders of the Year,” said Minister Docherty. “Nominations are now being accepted and I hope community groups, organizations and members of the public will take time to nominate a senior citizen for the 2014 Prince Edward Island Senior Islanders of the Year Award.”
To be eligible, nominees must be a current resident of Prince Edward Island, 65 years of age or older and willing to be nominated and participate in the award promotions. The Senior’s Secretariat reviews all submissions for Senior Islanders of the Year and selects the recipients.
In 2013, Lois Brown, Sr. Norma Gallant, Eric Hammill, John Kenny and Marion Murphy were honoured with the award.
Nomination forms are available online at gov.pe.ca/sss or by calling 1-866-770-0588. The deadline for nominations is July 15, 2014.
