New members appointed to Advisory Council on the Status of Women

* Community Services and Seniors [to May 2015]
The Prince Edward Island Advisory Council on the Status of Women is pleased to welcome five new council representatives, says Minister of Community Services, Seniors and Labour and Minister Responsible for the Status of Women Janice Sherry.

“I am delighted to welcome these five women into their important roles as members of the P.E.I. Advisory Council on the Status of Women,” said Minister Sherry. “These women represent a broad geographical range and will bring diverse perspectives and voices to the Advisory Council. Their expertise will positively contribute to the Council’s efforts to achieve true gender equality.”

Diane Kays of Charlottetown, Eileen Brown Wilt of O’Leary, Louise MacLeod of Uigg and Kelly Robinson of Stratford were appointed to Council in March, and Catherine Rankin of Summerside was named as a member of Council in July.

Minister Sherry is pleased to announce that new member Diane Kays has been appointed as the new chairperson of the Advisory Council. Diane Kays is replacing Isabelle Christian who has recently completed her five-year term with the Council. Minister Sherry extends her gratification to Isabelle Christian for her excellent work and dedication as former chair.

“Isabelle Christian’s work for the Council has been considerable and her leadership will be missed,” said Council Executive Director Lisa Murphy. “While Diane Kays is new to the Council, her career in social work and unpaid work experience fit perfectly with the mandate of the Council. Diane has much to offer and has already begun work on initiatives that advocate improving access to justice and poverty elimination, important equality work that will benefit all Islanders.” The P.E.I. Advisory Council on the Status of Women is an arms-length government organization mandated to advise the provincial government and bring before the public matters relating to the status of women. The Advisory Council works for gender equality and supports women’s participation in social, legal, cultural, economic and political spheres of life.
