Island teachers, early childhood educators, and support staff go the extra mile to create enhanced learning opportunities for Island children throughout the school year, says Education and Early Childhood Development Minister Gerard Greenan.
“The extra teaching and learning happening in early learning centres and schools is evident this time of year with Christmas concerts and activities,” says Minister Greenan. “However, educators go out of their way throughout the school year to provide learning opportunities beyond the standard curriculum.”
Minister Greenan acknowledged the dedicated efforts of Island educators and support staff to ensure Island children and youth have a great learning experience from the early years through to Grade 12.
“As children arrive home with special craft projects, musical instruments to practice or permission slips for special field trips and athletic events, parents can be sure that the extra effort of caring educators is making it possible,” says Minister Greenan.
Programs during lunch and after school from intramural and school sports to chess and computer clubs or student councils tap into the varied interests of students helping them engage in student life and develop valuable social skills and leadership abilities that will enhance their life-long learning.
“As our early learning centres and schools wind down for the holiday season, I want to extend my sincere appreciation to all Island educators and support staff for the great work they do to care for and support the children and youth of Prince Edward Island,” said Greenan. “Best wishes to everyone for a joyous festive season.”
