Two school administrators, Marian Grant, principal of Sherwood Elementary, and Luanne Inman, vice-principal of Montague Intermediate, are deserving recipients of outstanding achievement awards, says Education and Early Childhood Development Minister Doug Currie.
“I want to congratulate Marian Grant and Luanne Inman for being recognized for their professionalism and strong commitment to education,” said Minister Currie. “Leadership is an important aspect of education and these two individuals deserve a lot of credit for the time and effort they are investing in their staff and students. Ms. Grant and Ms. Inman are proven leaders and are highly respected across the Prince Edward Island education system.”
Marian Grant, principal of Sherwood Elementary School in Charlottetown, was recently named one of Canada’s Outstanding Principals, a National award presented to 32 administrators from across Canada. Ms. Grant is also a recipient of the 2011 Prince Edward Island Distinguished Principal Award as presented by the PEI Association of School Administrators. Grant is being recognized for dedicating several years toward making improvements to student learning, staff development and engaging parents in the school community.
Luanne Inman, vice-principal of Montague Intermediate School, is the recipient of the 2011 Distinguished Vice-Principal Award. Nominations for the awards are made by colleagues. The criteria include previous distinctions, educational experience, professional growth, community service and philosophy toward student learning.
Over the past three years, Ms. Inman has been a leader in the area of school development working with staff and colleagues to use data-driven analysis to help inform teachers of assessment practices to learn, to evaluate and for self reflection regarding teaching methodologies. Her efforts to this end have been met with positive and encouraging results as she pushes the envelope, getting teachers and students to strive for higher levels of achievement.
Ms. Inman continues to be a leader in the Eastern School in staff development with an emphasizes on personal and professional growth, all in an attempt to strengthen the learning community. At Montague Intermediate, she is focusing on improving the reading levels of all students. She has also helped to create literacy enhanced programs for struggling students encouraging them to be part of their own success.
“Ms. Grant and Ms. Inman continue to show tremendous work ethic and commitment to their students,” said Minister Currie. “They set a great example for all teachers, school administrators and students. We are fortunate to have experienced and dedicated leaders like them within the Island’s education system.”
