After nine days of competition and outstanding performances by our athletes, the Paralympic Games have come to a close says Minister of Tourism and Culture Robert Vessey, on behalf of the Province of Prince Edward Island.
“The over 600 athletes who competed in the Games did a tremendous job,” said Minister Vessey. “Congratulations to all athletes, volunteers and organizing committees for their participation in a successful 2010 Paralympic Games. I particularly want to congratulate and thank Billy Bridges and Mark Arendz who represented both Team Canada and the Province of Prince Edward Island.”
Bridges was part of the Canada’s Sledge Hockey Team which finished fourth overall in the Games.
Arendz competed in various Nordic events, finishing seventh overall in the Men’s 3km Pursuit – Standing; 16th in the Men’s Biathlon 12.5km Pursuit - Standing; 12th in the Men’s Cross-country 10km - Standing; seventh in the Men’s Relay 1x4km + 2x5km; and ninth in the qualifiers for the Men’s Cross-country 1km Sprint - Standing.
“It was an honour to be in Whistler and Vancouver, cheering on our Paralympic athletes and showcasing our Province on an international stage,” said Minister Vessey. “The Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Games were truly Canada’s Games and Prince Edward Island was proud to be a part of them.”
