Minister Announces Redevelopment Plans for Charlotte Court Senior Citizens Complex

* Community Services and Seniors [to May 2015]
The Honourable Janice Sherry, Minister of Community Services, Seniors and Labour, announced a major step forward today for the Charlotte Court Senior Citizens Complex. Cabinet has moved to mandate the Department to receive Expressions of Interest from private contractors regarding proposals to replace Charlotte Court.

“Residents of Charlotte Court have waited patiently and now we are ready to take action,” said Minister Sherry. “Government has been working over the past two years to secure the funding from the Capital budget, the Federal government and other partners so that the initiative would be funded adequately to create the type of housing that the present and future residents deserve.”

Expressions of Interest will be sought in the next few days; the Department will work to move the process along as quickly as is reasonable. Staff from the Department will set up a manner for ongoing dialogue with residents in preparation for eventual construction.

“We continue to seek patience from residents during this transitional period,” said Minister Sherry. “We are committed to meeting the needs of the residents and providing an appropriate, modern and energy-efficient seniors housing facility.”

The 45-year-old Charlotte Court senior citizens building is located at 300 North River Road in Charlottetown. It is the oldest seniors rental housing building in the province.
