The addition of two new members will complement the diverse mix of skilled community leaders that make up the current Health PEI Board of Directors, says Health and Wellness Minister Doug Currie.
“I am very pleased to welcome Peter Doucette of Montague and Sandra Gaudet of Charlottetown to the Health PEI Board,” said Minister Currie. “With their broad experience and skill set, I know they will bring a valuable and unique perspective as they work with the other members in helping to build an integrated, sustainable health care system for Islanders. There were many high-quality applicants and I thank everyone who put their name forward.”
In December, advertisements ran through Participate PEI to fill the two positions that were opening because the three-year terms for Leo Steven and Amie Swallow-MacDonald would be completed as of March 31.
“I extend my sincere thanks to Leo Steven and Amie Swallow-MacDonald for their dedicated service during their term,“ said Currie. “As inaugural board members, they played a key role in the formative years of Health PEI. I would also like to offer my congratulations to existing board member, Dr. Donna Murnaghan, on her new appointment as board chair.”
“I’m very excited about my new role and look forward to seeing continued improvements to the health care system as we roll out Health PEI’s new strategic plan currently nearing completion,” said Murnaghan. “I would also like to welcome our new members, on behalf of the board, and offer our very best wishes to out-going chair, Leo Steven and member, Amie Swallow-MacDonald.”

Peter Doucette
Peter was educated at Stonehill College in North Easton, Massachusetts and has had a varied and extensive career. He worked as a carpenter and a contractor with Georgetown Shipyards and in various private sector construction companies. Peter also served as a director and chair of the Montague Credit Union, was a founding member of the Southern Kings and Queens Food Bank, served as chair of the Southern Kings and Queens Advisory Board, and served as president and secretary-treasurer of the Montague Lions Club. He also worked as director and program manager for the Regional Co-operative Development Centre in Moncton, and served as chief operations officer with an Island technology firm. He is a former Montague town councilor and is past president of the PEI Council of People with Disabilities. Peter lives in Montague.
Sandra Gaudet
Sandra is the Executive Director of the Mi’kmaq Confederacy of PEI. She holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Prince Edward Island and a Bachelor of Social Work from Dalhousie University. She had an extensive career with the Government of Canada in a number of senior management positions, including responsibility for the national management and administration of the health programs of Veterans Affairs Canada. Prior to retiring from the public service, Sandra was the area director for Fisheries and Oceans Canada in Prince Edward Island. She lives in Charlottetown.
