The Kings County Memorial Hospital (KCMH) held a celebration today to mark the grand opening of the new Emergency Department and 75 years of operation.
“This is a special time for the staff and administration at the Kings County Memorial Hospital and for all residents of Kings County,” says Doug Currie, Minister of Health. “Renovations to the hospital’s Emergency Department will provide more privacy for patients, improve patient flow, and will help to reduce wait times in the Emergency Department.”
Upgrades to the facility include an expansion of three additional examination rooms, a redesigned nursing station, a new waiting room for lab and x-ray patients and an office for security personnel.
An isolation room with negative pressure was also added to ensure infection control and to prevent the spread of infectious disease, such as Vancomycin Resistant Enterococcus (VRE) and Methicillin Resistant Staph Aureus (MRSA).
“The hospital has been providing Islanders with access to healthcare services for decades and the concept of a hospital has changed drastically over the years,” says Jean Fallis, Administrator at the Kings County Memorial Hospital. “These renovations will enhance the delivery of healthcare services to better meet the needs of our patients and staff.”
