February 15, 2008 The Island Waste Management Corporation today announced details of an upcoming storm debris cleanup for residents of Prince County and Central Queens County affected by the recent ice storm. “Many Islanders in Prince County and Central Queens County have seen a buildup in broken trees and other debris after the recent ice storm and IWMC wants to do its part in helping assist in the cleanup,” said Transportation and Public Works Minister Ron MacKinley, Minister responsible for Island Waste Management Corporation. Normally, storm debris such as tree limbs, twigs and branches would be disposed of either through Spring Cleanup or by delivering to local Waste Watch Drop Off Centers (WWDC’s) where a charge would apply. Due to the extensive damage caused by the recent ice storm, beginning immediately and continuing until March 31 the Island Waste Management Corporation will accept broken tree limbs, twigs and branches up to one foot in diameter without charge at local Waste Watch Drop Off Centers (WWDC’s) located in Brockton, Wellington and New London. This free disposal will cover tree limb debris only and normal disposal fees will apply for all other disposals. “I’m pleased to see this service being offered to residents free of charge as the cleanup continues,” said Evangeline-Miscouche MLA Sonny Gallant. “People have been through a lot already and this will be one less detail to worry about.” Media Contact: Gerry Moore
