Four community organizations will be supported in their work to promote the rights of Island girls and women with the awarding of the 2016 Interministerial Women’s Secretariat Grants, says Paula Biggar, Minister Responsible for the Status of Women.
“The cause of women’s rights has made great advances over the years, we still have far to go. It is wonderful to have so many partners in this work,” said Minister Biggar.
“I want to thank the recipients of our IWS grants for their commitment to the equality for all Islanders.”
The Interministerial Women’s Secretariat awards grants each year to help organizations that:
- provide direct services and programs for the benefit of women and girls in Prince Edward Island;
- support projects that enhance awareness, education and social action on women’s legal, health, social and economic equality;
- and/or support the capacity of women’s organizations that promote women’s equality through advocacy, research and policy development.
"We are grateful to the Interministerial Women's Secretariat for funding these new projects,” says Michelle MacCallum, Executive Director of Women’s Network PEI. “These projects will have a huge impact on developing and increasing leadership potential for women who work in community organizations across our province.”
