Innovative Engineering Company Expands its Operations with Government Support

The engineering firm of Aspin Kemp & Associates is expanding its facilities in Stratford with the support of the federal government in order to respond to growing demand for its systems integration services in the international marine industries sector.

The Honourable Keith Ashfield, Minister of National Revenue, Minister of the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA) and Minister for the Atlantic Gateway was joined by the Honourable Allan Campbell, PEI Minister of Innovation and Advanced Learning in announcing support for the expansion of the Stratford facility which is the company’s centre for engineering, research and development, testing, training, fabrication and manufacturing of electrical power, power conversion and control systems.

“Our government, through ACOA, is pleased to invest $376,000 in a project with the capacity to create and sustain highly skilled jobs in Atlantic Canada,” said Minister Ashfield. “Investing in innovative companies, like Aspin Kemp & Associates, who are working at the leading edge of their respective industry sectors, is a key to strengthening our regional economy and ensuring Atlantic Canada’s competitiveness in the global economy.”

“The Province of Prince Edward Island is pleased to see the expansion of Aspin Kemp and Associates,” said Innovation and Advanced Learning Minister Allan Campbell. “It shows the success of our support to this company though programs such as the Innovation and Development Tax Credit. This is just one example of the economic growth resulting from this government’s Island Prosperity Strategy.”

The Province of Prince Edward Island has supported Aspin Kemp and Associates through Innovation PEI’s Innovation and Development Tax Credit, a PEI Labour Rebate Program.

With an expansion to the existing facility, the company will see an increase to its manufacturing capacity. This will allow for dedicated generator and machinery space, and a control room for supporting system testing and training. The additional space will also better position the company to conduct ongoing research and development in partnership with its key client.

“We are very pleased that with increased capacity, this Stratford location will not only become a major manufacturing facility, but will also establish AKA as the key training center for our key global clients,” said Jason Aspin, CEO Aspin Kemp & Associates. “Receiving support from both the federal and provincial governments confirms to us that our ongoing research and development is being recognized as playing a positive, contributing role in the Island’s economy.”

Aspin Kemp & Associates is headquartered in Owen Sound, Ontario and operates internationally with offices in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia; Stratford, Prince Edward Island; Houston, Texas; and Singapore.

The company develops and delivers leading edge technologies and cost-effective applications such as an Advanced Generator Protection System as well as its proprietary Hybrid Marine Propulsion System to a worldwide client base.
