Health Department Offers Tips For Weekend Concert

* Health [to Jan 2010]
Dr. Lamont Sweet, Deputy Chief Health Officer, is offering some helpful tips as concert ticket holders prepare for the upcoming weekend event at the Charlottetown Driving Park Entertainment Centre.

Dr. Sweet says, “As this event is to be held outdoors in mid summer, some simple yet effective efforts could help avoid some unnecessary inconveniences and health risks. The event is happening over many hours and concert organizers will permit people to bring along a one-litre, sealed bottle of water to avoid dehydration and any prescription medications required throughout the day.”

Dr. Sweet said, “Those requiring medications for Diabetes should consider special preparations as access to refrigeration is not available. With previous concerts, this was an issue as some people did not bring cold packs for insulin storage.”

Dr. Sweet also advised to apply sun screen, wear comfortable shoes and a hat, and bring along a raincoat in case of inclement weather. As no chairs are allowed at the concert, the public is encouraged to bring a light blanket for sitting.

First Aid stations will be operating throughout the day at the event and the public is encouraged to report urgent medical needs to station personnel.
