First Health PEI annual meeting will feature Web streaming, Dr. Jeff Turnbull

Wherever they may be, Islanders will be able to participate in the first Annual General Meeting of Health PEI on the internet, says Leo Steven, chair of the Health PEI Board of Directors.

“This historic meeting is part of an ongoing dialogue on health care that Health PEI and its board began with Islanders in March, when the board hosted four Health PEI Expos throughout the province,” Steven said. “Now, with a lively agenda, a nationally known keynote speaker and an opportunity to remotely watch and ask questions of the meeting participants, we hope to further engage Islanders in the One Island Health System we’re working to create.”

With the theme “Your Health Care: Meeting the Challenge,” the meeting will be November 15 at 6:30 p.m. at Murchison Centre, 15-17 St. Pius X Avenue in Charlottetown. Islanders without an internet connection who are unable to attend in Charlottetown will be able to watch the meeting live and submit questions from the St. Lawrence Room of the Prince County Hospital in Summerside.

“We are extremely fortunate to have attracted Dr. Jeff Turnbull, a national health care leader and innovator, as our keynote speaker,” Steven said. “Dr. Turnbull’s commitment to community-based, preventative health care aligns closely with Health PEI’s continuing effort to increase Islanders’ access to primary care services.”

Health and Wellness Minister Doug Currie also will make remarks along with Steven and Keith Dewar, the CEO of Health PEI. There will be a financial report and a moderated panel discussion featuring Dr. Turnbull and members of Health PEI’s executive leadership. On-site interpretation services will be available in French.

“As Minister responsible for the health system, I support Health PEI’s approach to their upcoming annual meeting which is both open and transparent,” Currie said. “This is an encouraging initiative that will engage Islanders in important discussions around health care and it’s just another example of how Health PEI is being accountable to Islanders.”
