From a new and expanded location in Summerside, Fabco Welding Ltd. is continuing to grow and diversify its welding and metal fabrication business.
"The entrepreneurial spirit is thriving at Fabco Welding. The company is actively pursuing new markets and creating new products," said Joe McGuire, Member of Parliament for the Egmont, on behalf of the Honourable Robert Thibault, Minister of State for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA), and the Honourable Jane Stewart, Minister of Human Resources Development Canada (HRDC). "Both their new location and machinery will enable them to offer even better services and achieve their goals."
The company manufactures specialized products for the fishing and agriculture industries. With its new equipment, Fabco Welding can now make a greater variety of products including conveyors, oyster and mussel vessels .
"Fabco Welding is situated in the heart of the agricultural sector, not to mention its proximity to both the fishing and aerospace industries," said Helen MacDonald, Member of the Legislative Assembly for St. Eleanor's-Summerside on behalf of the Honourable Mike Currie, Minister of Development and Technology. "The provincial government is pleased to support industrious operations like this that continue to seek out new opportunities, thereby creating more work for itself and Islanders."
Fabco Welding currently employs seven people, two of which were added since the expansion. Company owner Scott Hickey is pleased with his company's progress, now in its eighth year of operation, and he hopes to see continued growth.
"The new equipment and facilities Fabco Welding has acquired increases our capacity to undertake a wide variety of projects including the production of larger aluminium vessels," said Hickey. "We look forward to introducing our services to a wider range of clients over the coming months."
For its expansion, Fabco Welding received a repayable loan from ACOA through the Business Development Program and a contribution from HRDC. The Department of Development and Technology contributed to the project contributed through Prince Edward Island Business Development's Small Business Support Program.
