École St-Augustin was officially opened today by students, staff, parents, French Language School Board representatives, community organizations and government officials.
"Our government is committed to French education across Prince Edward Island," said Education Minister Jeffrey E. Lantz. "Acadian and Francophone culture and heritage are vital to the strength of our communities. This school is part of a three-year pilot project for the Rustico area. The pilot will help determine the future direction of French first-language education in this area."
École St-Augustin is located in the Cymbria Lions Club in South Rustico. The school consists of classroom space for Grade 1, kindergarten and pre-kindergarten. Le Conseil de Rustico is also located in the building.

"This school is becoming an important part of the Rustico community," said Mrs. MacKenzie. "It is also important to the culture and heritage for Island Acadians and Francophones. I am pleased that children in this region have the opportunity to be educated in French in their community. Government's commitment to French education certainly illustrates our interest in preserving cultural diversity "
Speaking for the French Language School Board, chairman Stéphane Ferland said, "La Commission scolaire de langue française is extremely pleased to be able to offer French education in the Rustico area.
