The Premier’s Action Committee on Family Violence Prevention is promoting healthy family relationships by donating children’s books to public libraries across Prince Edward Island, says Valerie E. Docherty, Minister of Community Services and Seniors.
“These books teach lessons about relationships in a way that is easy for children to understand,” says Minister Docherty. “Education is key in preventing family violence and this is a great way to promote these messages at an early age.”
The donation of books includes Snowflakes Fall by Patricia MacLachlan, Zero by Kathryn Otoshi, The Family Book and The Peace Book by Todd Parr, I’m Here by Peter H. Reynolds and C’est Lui by Oliver Jeffers.
“Family violence prevention is an issue that affects everyone in the community, and the public library service is pleased to have the chance to be involved in this important campaign,” says Minister of Tourism and Culture Robert Henderson. “I invite all families to visit their local public library and borrow these books.”
“The Premier’s Action Committee welcomes this opportunity to educate young Islanders,” says Dr. Philip Smith, Chair of the Premier’s Action Committee on Family Violence. “These stories and illustrations can be engaging avenues to conversation with children about healthy ways to be with each other in families.”
