Prince Edward Island’s world famous culinary foods are one of the highlights tourists will be encouraged to sample when visiting Prince Edward Island this year, said Deputy Premier and Agriculture Minister George Webster as the province unveiled its tourism marketing plan.

“This year’s marketing campaign will share the story of some of the key elements Prince Edward Island offers as a tourism destination, such as our tremendous golf, delicious culinary and incredible hospitality. In particular, for 2010, we will place a special emphasis on our culinary delights. The freshness of our world renowned food, be it from land or sea, is something we want visitors to experience as part of their destination travel,” Minister Webster said.

The Department of Tourism and Culture, along with the Tourism Advisory Council (TAC), unveiled the details of the 2010 Marketing, Media and Public Relations plan to Prince Edward Island tourism operators today in Charlottetown.

The elements of the 2010 marketing campaign from online and print ads, to the Island Guide, publications and broadcast ads were presented to members of the Tourism Industry Association of Prince Edward Island (TIAPEI) as part of its annual conference.

“This year’s campaign is perfectly on-brand,” said Kevin Murphy, Chair of TAC. “The tactics support the strategic objectives we presented to the industry last Fall in the Tourism Plan 2010 and leverage our key vertical product areas of golf, culinary and culture in our target markets. There is an exciting shift away from traditional television as an awareness builder – and towards focused, effective new online, social media and broadcast as well as PR and media relations,” Murphy said.
