Deadline for PEI Senior Islanders of the Year Award Fast Approaching

* Community Services and Seniors [to May 2015]
Community groups, organizations and the general public who wish to nominate seniors in their community for the PEI Senior Islanders of the Year Award are reminded the deadline for nominations is August 1, says Community Services, Seniors and Labour Minister Janice Sherry.

The award is intended to recognize contributions made by Island seniors in many areas of community life, including: volunteerism, artistic achievement, fundraising, community participation, career achievements, fitness/recreation and other activities.

“The PEI Senior Islanders of the Year Award offers us an opportunity to say ‘thank you’ to those older adults who make such significant contributions to our Island communities,” said Minister Sherry. “I encourage everyone who knows older adults deserving of recognition to submit a nomination form and honour these unsung heroes.” In order to be eligible for the award, nominees must be:

• a current resident of Prince Edward Island;

• 65 years of age or older; and

• willing to be nominated and agree to participate in award promotions.

Those wishing to nominate someone for the PEI Senior Islanders of the Year Award can find the nomination form online at www.gov.pe.ca/sss or by calling 1-866-770-0588.
