Carrefour de la francophonie celebrates diversity

Premier's Office
The Carrefour de la francophonie celebrated the richness and diversity of the Prince Edward Island Acadian and Francophone community, says Premier Robert Ghiz, Minister responsible for Acadian and Francophone Affairs.

“As part of our provincial French celebrations, this event highlighted our diversity, our rich Acadian heritage, as well as the vitality of the French language in Prince Edward Island,” said the Premier. “I encourage everyone to take part in the provincial French celebrations by participating in school and community activities across Prince Edward Island.”

The Carrefour de la francophonie took place at Confederation Centre of the Arts today, and featured the Confederation Centre Youth Chorus as well as elements of the upcoming Charlottetown Festival musical Evangeline.

The event was organized by the Acadian and Francophone Community Advisory Committee, in collaboration with Confederation Centre of the Arts, the Société Saint-Thomas-d’Aquin, Canadian Parents for French, Jeunesse acadienne and the Coopérative d'intégration francophone.

This year’s Provincial French Celebrations (Rendez-vous de la Francophonie 2013) are taking place from March 8 to 24, celebrating the French language and Acadian culture in Prince Edward Island.

“French language education continues to thrive in our province and we are pleased that we are able to offer Island students a strong French curriculum,” said Education and Early Childhood Development Minister Alan McIsaac. “A bilingual education carries many benefits for students graduating into the workforce.”
