Canadian Youth Against Impaired Driving Conference Set For May 2009

* Transportation and Public Works [to Jan 2010]
This coming May, hundreds of students from across Canada will descend on the University of Prince Edward Island to participate in the annual Canadian Youth Against Impaired Driving (CYAID) conference. This will be the first time the Island has played host to the event which sees young Canadians from organizations like Students Against Drunk Driving come together to share ideas and develop common goals.

“I’m very pleased to see such a worthwhile event coming to Prince Edward Island,” says Minister of Transportation and Public Works Ron MacKinley. “Impaired driving may be the biggest detriment to road safety today, so any step to promote sober driving is a step in the right direction.”

The Government of Prince Edward Island is providing financial support for the event through the Department of Transportation and Public Works, Highway Safety Division, and the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development. But more support is still needed.

“We plan to invite a number of guest speakers, and we need to provide delegates with educational materials,” says Adeline Trainor, provincial co-ordinator for CYAID. “Public donations will be used to further educate Canadian youth on the dangers involved with impaired driving and the perils of destructive decision making.”

Anyone who wishes to show their support for this important event is encouraged to visit the CYAID 2009 website at www.cyaid2009.com.
