Cabinetmaster, a premier manufacturer and supplier of commercial casework and millwork, is ready for a fourth expansion since its inception in 2002. The company will purchase new equipment and lease 23,000 square feet of production space in Lower Montague. The PEI-based company expects to hire between 30-35 people over the next twelve months.
The purpose of this expansion is to manufacture molding, specialty wood products and veneer panels in-house rather than outsource the work, giving the company more control in managing delivery dates and also in the quality of products being produced. The first production is expected to begin in the next two to three weeks.
“Canada’s New Government understands the significant role small and medium-sized enterprises play in Atlantic Canada’s economy,” said the Honourable Peter MacKay, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Minister of the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA). “Adding new production space and purchasing new equipment will better position this company to increase its export opportunities and, in doing so, create jobs and economic prosperity for the region.”
Cabinetmaster Architectural Woodwork Limited began its operations with 12 employees. In 2003, the company relocated to a facility on Kensington Road in Charlottetown. Today, the business occupies 28,500 square feet of manufacturing space and is currently staffed with over 90 employees.
“Cabinetmaster is a prime example of a company that continues to expand as a result of export-related business ventures,” said Minister of Development and Technology Mike Currie. “This expansion in Montague translates into new job opportunities and economic benefits to a rural community. This clearly demonstrates how PEI companies can successfully compete on a global basis.”
Company President and CEO, Gordie Kirkpatrick recently welcomed representatives from Mariott International for a facility tour of the Charlottetown production plant. Cabinetmaster has become a major supplier for cabinetry and millwork for the well-known hotel chain.
“We look forward to our future growth through the procurement of new jobs and an increase in production,” Mr. Kirkpatrick. “The commitment, energy, and hard work from our staff have been important components in our company’s growth and we applaud their continued dedication. Our employees are a valuable asset to this company and each and every one of them makes us what we are, a world leader in the millwork industry.”
ACOA, through its Business Development Program, will provide a $500,000 repayable contribution towards the purchase of equipment for the new production space. The provincial government, through its Innovation & Development Tax Credit Program, invested $500,000.
