The 2nd Annual Meeting of Ministers Responsible for Status of Women will be held in Prince Edward Island this week, says Minister of Community Services, Seniors and Labour Janice Sherry.
“I am very much looking forward to hosting the second annual meeting of Atlantic ministers in Prince Edward Island this week,” said Sherry. “This two-day event is an excellent opportunity for the four provinces to sit down together and collaborate as we address current issues of concern in regards to the Status of Women.”
Minister Sherry, Prince Edward Island’s Minister Responsible for the Status of Women, will host her Atlantic counterparts on Thursday, June 9 and Friday, June 10 in Summerside to discuss matters of common concern and examine areas for continued regional co-operation.
Specific agenda items that will be discussed at this year’s meeting include social media and girls, gender-based analysis tools and Aboriginal women’s issues.
Continued from last year’s inaugural meeting, held in Quispamsis, New Brunswick, there will be further discussion of human trafficking of women and girls, and ministers will provide provincial updates on this critical issue.
“I am eager to welcome the Atlantic ministers responsible for the Status of Women to Prince Edward Island,” said Sherry. “It is important we work together as a unit towards our shared goal which is to aim for equality as we support women’s participation in all aspects of life.”
