Prince Edward Island is honoured to host Their Royal Highnesses, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, July 3 and 4, says Premier Robert Ghiz.

“Prince Edward Island is delighted to be included in this historic celebration,” said Premier Ghiz. “The 2011 Royal Tour is a wonderful opportunity for our province to showcase the hospitality, beauty, culture and history that makes us a world-class destination.”

Various events are scheduled across the province, and Islanders from tip-to-tip will have the opportunity to participate in the celebrations. Today, the Prime Minister of Canada, Stephen Harper, announced Charlottetown and Summerside as cities included in the 2011 Royal Tour.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will visit:

• the National Capital Region from June 30 to July 2;

• Montréal, Quebec, on July 2;

• Québec City, Quebec, on July 3;

• Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, from July 3 to July 4;

• Summerside, Prince Edward Island, on July 4;

• Yellowknife, Northwest Territories, from July 4 to July 6; and

• Calgary, Alberta, from July 6 to July 8.

A detailed itinerary will be announced in June.

“The Canadian tour is Their Royal Highnesses first official visit as a married couple and the first time to Canada for the Duchess,” said Premier Ghiz. “I encourage all Islanders to welcome Their Royal Highnesses by taking part in celebrations across the province.”
