Unemployed youth will have the opportunity to enhance their life and employability skills to assist them to successfully transition into the workforce or return to school, says Minister Richard Brown, Workforce and Advanced Learning.
Thanks to a partnership between SkillsPEI, the East Prince Youth Development Centre, Holland College, and The Adventure Group, unemployed youth in Prince Edward Island will get the chance to participate in Connection 2 Employment. This project will run concurrently in four locations—Charlottetown, Montague, Summerside, and West Prince—offering participants an opportunity to enhance life and employability skills, and to assist them in making a successful transition into the workforce. Participants will also have an opportunity to take part in a four week work placement with private sector employers across Prince Edward Island.
“Our Government places a strong emphasis on youth, recognizing the link between lifelong learning, training, and career growth. Connection 2 Employment is a project that aims to close the youth unemployment labour force gap, and Workforce and Advanced Learning is proud to partner on this initiative,” said Minister Brown.
Connection 2 Employment offers 14 weeks of training, beginning February 22 to assist unemployed youth between the ages of 15–30 years old. It features group-based sessions; exposure to various career and job opportunities; and specialized training, including First Aid, CPR & WHMIS, World Host Customer Service, Training and Food Service Certification.

Youth will learn to strengthen their skills in topics such as: time management; employer expectations; resume/cover letter building and interview skills; teamwork; developing self awareness; and stress management,” said Barb Broome, Manager of East Prince Youth Development Centre.
Connection 2 Employment aligns well with the Government of Prince Edward Island’s strategic priority to assist Island youth in gaining employment, while fostering a culture of entrepreneurship. Funding is provided through the Canada-PEI Labour Market Development Agreement and the Canada-PEI Job Fund Agreement.
