Grade 11 and 12 Island high school students will have help making informed career choices next week when Youth Employment Fair '98 visits their school. Many Island business and associations people will staff exhibits at Youth Employment Fair '98, which will showcase various career opportunities for students.
"The changes taking place in today's work force and the opportunities that youth are now facing are much different than in the past," said the Honourable Lawrence A. MacAulay, on behalf of the Government of Canada. "Info fairs such as this one are very important in helping youth make informed career choices."
Youth Employment Fair '98 will tour the province November 23-28 and visit eight Island high schools. The schedule is as follows.
November 23: Westisle Composite High, 9 - 11:30 a.m.
November 24: Charlottetown Rural High, 9 - 11:30 a.m., and Colonel Gray Senior High, 12:30 - 3:20 p.m.
November 25: Kensington Intermediate Senior High, 9 - 11:40 a.m., and Bluefield High, 12:40 - 3:20 p.m.
November 26: Montague Regional High, 8:45 - 11:40 a.m., and Souris High, 12:20 - 3:10 p.m.
November 27: Three Oaks Senior High, 9 - 11:45 a.m.
As part of Youth Employment Fair '98, Bill Martin, a motivational speaker, will present three evening sessions on lifelong learning, career realities and the knowledge based economy. These sessions will be open to students, teachers and parents. His presentations are scheduled for Monday, Tuesday and Thursday evenings at 7 p.m., at Three Oaks, Colonel Gray and Morell High, respectively. These sessions will help to further increase career and employment awareness.
"Youth Employment Fair '98 is an ideal opportunity for students, parents and teachers to gain information to maximize their employment opportunities for the 21st century," said the Honourable Chester Gillan, Minister of Education. "Through this fair, students will gain insights into the types of skills and education needed for various careers."
Youth Employment Fair '98 was organized in partnership by the Knowledge Economy Partnership, Human Resources Development Canada, Department of Education, Home and School Federation and PEI senior high schools.
