Technology PEI's Youth of the Digital Age program is seeking participants. The program consists of a series of workshops where students are taught techniques for creating a web page.
In the past, the program has targeted junior high and high school students. Over 200 young people from eight schools have already participated. This year, the program will include elementary schools.
The program will run in five elementary schools, and the workshops will take place in the school's computer lab or at the community's CAP site. The youth will receive instruction from qualified technical coaches and will each receive an HTML textbook resource for the duration of the program. More than 20 young adults will be employed as technical coaches or facilitators and will run the workshops.
The workshops will be scheduled in cooperation with individual schools.
Youth of the Digital Age has proved to be a successful program as it allows students to be exposed to new technology (HTML) and gives them the skills and instruction to work independently within a given time frame in order to complete their webpage.
Morell's CAP site and Learning Centre Manager, Lisa O'Keefe MacAulay, will be contacting Island schools to assess the level of interest to host the Youth of the Digital Age Program. If you are interested in participating in this program, please contact Lisa at (902) 961-2642 or by email at mrclc@isn.net
