Youth of the Digital Age Celebrates Another Successful Year

The popular Youth of the Digital Age (YODA) program has reached its completion date and closing ceremonies are underway. The program provides youth with technical experience and guidance in a fun and informative environment. Students are taught web design skills to create websites based on a subject of their choice.

The program consists of a series of workshops where students are taught techniques for creating a webpage. The program took place in computer labs at five Island schools. Participants received instruction from more than 25 qualified young adults who were employed as technical coaches and facilitators to run the workshops.

“Learning how to create a website and developing IT skills helps to better prepare students in today’s new knowledge-based environment,” said Minister of Development and Technology Mike Currie. “YODA has proven to be a successful program as it allows students to be exposed to new technology and how to work independently within a given time frame. It has not only been beneficial to the students in the classroom but it has also been a positive work experience for the technical coaches and facilitators hired to conduct the Program.”

Prince Street Elementary, Grand Tracadie Elementary, St. Jean Elementary, Sherwood Elementary and Rollo Bay Consolidated were the host schools.

Technology PEI, in partnership with the Morell Region Community Learning Centre and CAP sites, have offered this program over the past number of years at no cost to participants.
