One hundred and twenty five young Islanders will be getting a chance to participate in the Youth of the Digital Age program. The program helps young people to become familiar with information technology by providing them with basic training at a series of workshops.
Those participating in the program will learn about in Basic HTML coding, design techniques, and graphic manipulation. A team of five facilitators and five technical coaches for each host site will be hired to run the workshops and to teach the skills. The technical positions are open to high school students.
Five high schools have been chosen as host sites for the workshops. They are: Westisle, Kinkora, Charlottetown Rural, Montague, and Three Oaks.
The workshops will last 24 hours in total and will run over a two-week period on week nights and weekends. Within the next 6 weeks, each host site will hold a "Graduation" where family, friends, and invited guests will view the young peoples' final product.
Participation will be limited to 25 students per site. Junior high students are eligible and may sign up through the principal's office at their school. The program is being administered by the Morell Learning Centre.
