Civic addresses are very important for emergency services – fire, ambulance and police can’t help you if they can’t find you, says Environment, Labour and Justice Minister Janice Sherry.
No one wants emergency responders to be delayed because a civic address sign is missing, damaged or hidden behind bushes,” she said. “Please take time to check on your sign and relocate or replace it if necessary. Having your address clearly visible can save precious minutes when an emergency responder is trying to find your location.”
In rural communities, all property owners are responsible to obtain and display an approved civic address sign. Signs can be made by any local sign manufacturer who complies with Provincial standards, as established by the Emergency 911 Act General Regulations.
Contact your local municipality about civic address display requirements if you live in any of the following places: Alberton, Borden-Carleton, Brackley, Charlottetown, Cornwall, Georgetown, Kensington, Kinkora, Miscouche, Montague, O’Leary, Souris, Stratford, Summerside, Tignish, Victoria or Wellington.
