Young Environmentalists Save Abandoned Kittens

* Environment [to Apr 1996]
A group of Young Environmentalists saved two kittens from imminent death recently on the shores of Murray Harbour. The group came across three, four-week old kittens while doing a beach clean-up in the area. The youth took them to the Brudenell Veterinary Clinic where they were examined and fed. One of the animals died before reaching the clinic. By the end of the day, two of the three kittens were adopted by concerned families.

This team of Young Environmentalists is one of ten teams across the Island comprised of high school and university students. These teams are available to local communities and organizations to help perform environmental projects. The Murray Harbour team is comprised of five youth from Gaspereaux, Murray Harbour, and Beach Point. The youth are involved in projects such as beach sweeps, educational demonstrations on composting, stream enhancement, tree planting, and other environmentally related projects. The Young Environmentalists teams provide labour to complete environmental projects for Island communities.
