Beginning Monday, August 3, the Department of Transportation and Public Works will begin work to improve the intersection of Route 1, the Trans Canada Highway, at Warren Grove and York Point Roads in Cornwall. The work aims to increase traffic flow at the intersection and improve overall safety at the location.
Starting Monday, and for the balance of the week, crews will focus work on Warren Grove Road and York Point Road. Short delays can be expected for drivers using those roads. The following Monday, August 10, work will begin on the Trans Canada portion of the project. Again delays can be expected for drivers approaching the intersection. All told, the project should take about two weeks to complete.
“The Department is doing everything it can to maintain efficient traffic flow through the construction zone,” says Minister of Transportation and Public Works Ron MacKinley. “But we do expect some short delays, so if drivers are able to take an alternate route, that may decrease some of the pressure on the intersection during construction.”
When finished, the alignment of the Warren Grove and York Point Roads will be improved. On the York Point section, the right turn ramp will be re-aligned to allow for better sight lines. On the Warren Grove road, a left turn lane will be constructed to allow for more efficient access onto the Trans Canada. The project will also see new paving starting at the intersection for 700 metres heading east toward the causeway. Two way traffic will be maintained at all times, and during peak hours an additional lane will be made available to improve traffic flow through the project area.
