Women’s Institute members from across the province have taken on the challenge of raising $115,000 over the next three years for the neo-natal unit at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital. The Spring is in the Air Gala Dinner on April 12 will be the first major event scheduled as Women’s Institute members work to fulfill this commitment. The endeavour will include the purchase of the following pieces of life saving equipment: a neonatal ventilator, a stretcher for transport isolette, a CPAP flow generator to help neonatal babies breathe, a fetal heart monitor and dopplers.
“The neo-natal unit helps to save the lives of the most vulnerable, precious new babies, who are most often fighting for their very lives,” said Marie Kenny, president of the Women’s Institute of Prince Edward Island. “I believe we have come full circle in the vision of this organization as we reach out to provide life saving equipment to help families when they need it the most.”
Kenny encourages Islanders to come out and support the gala dinner at the Atlantic Tourism and Hospitality Institute in Charlottetown. Proceeds from the four course meal and live and silent auctions will be given to support this worthwhile cause. The tickets are $75 each and there is a tax receipt for $40.
