A new kindergarten wing is providing additional space and opportunities for students and staff to learn at West Royalty Elementary School, says Premier Robert Ghiz.
“Kindergarten students are settling in to their new surroundings in schools across our one Island community and the new expansion at West Royalty is something students, staff, parents and all residents of the community can be very proud of,” said Premier Ghiz. “It is great to see five new classrooms full of children learning, playing and growing. This facility can accommodate existing and future students in the growing community of West Royalty.”
The newly expanded kindergarten wing officially opened today with a song performed by kindergarten students for representatives of the Government of Prince Edward Island and the Eastern School District.
The new kindergarten wing at West Royalty Elementary School includes five classrooms to accommodate the introduction of kindergarten into the public school system. The cost of the expansion at West Royalty Elementary School is approximately $1 million.
“The addition of kindergarten to our school system continues to be a positive experience for Island families,” said Education and Early Childhood Development Minister Doug Currie. “As the Minister responsible, I am committed to working with school boards, staff and all community stakeholders to ensure the support is in place to allow our children to continue learning and growing in a safe and comfortable environment.”
During the official opening at the new West Royalty Elementary School, Premier Robert Ghiz, Minister Currie, Mr. Bush Dumville, MLA for District 15, West Royalty-Springvale and Principal Kenneth Gaudet joined several kindergarten students for the official ribbon cutting ceremony and unveiling of a dedication plaque.
“The students at West Royalty Elementary School are so excited to be learning inside these new classrooms,” said Principal Gaudet. “The additional space for students and staff is very welcoming and the expansion has created a fantastic environment that will benefit the community for years to come.”
