Weight Restrictions to be Removed in Prince County Monday May 11

Officials from the provincial Department of Transportation and Public Works will remove spring weight restrictions on all roads west of Summerside beginning at 12:01 a.m., Monday May 11. The restrictions were lifted from Summerside east late last week.

“I appreciate all the cooperation we’ve received from the transport industry on Prince Edward Island over the last few weeks,” says Minister of Transportation and Public Works Ron MacKinley. “We see better and better compliance from the trucking community with each passing year, which is extremely important as we try to avoid major damage to Island roads over the spring thaw.”

Transportation officials implement a rigorous testing program during spring to determine when restrictions should be implemented, and when they should be removed. This season conditions improved more quickly in eastern and central Prince Edward Island than they did in the west.
